Weekly Discussion Topic: Harvard Men's Soccer and Objectification

Last week, Harvard announced it was cancelling the rest of its men’s soccer season after university officials uncovered what they described as “a widespread practice of the team’s players rating the school’s female players in sexually explicit terms.” In response, members of the women’s soccer team wrote an editorial for the Harvard Crimson. We invite you to think about this incident and how it relates to issues of objectification in all spaces, not just at Harvard.

The NYTimes article states that the Harvard Athletics Department will work with the university’s Department of Sexual Assault Prevention and Response to educate student-athletes about respect.  How might members of the university community work to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future?
